dignity fell away.

her surface trembled,
dissolved in agonized ripples.
laughter followed each swollen ring,
a cruel affirmation of hatred
thrust on the back of the damned.

she wept as we sliced through her,
trailing the scornful sneers she hoped
we'd left behind.
bleeding black, she sealed her wounds
tremulously, incompletely,
only to have us glide over them again.

she never struggled, knowing
her efforts would be futile
if she did.

we took her essence and drenched ourselves,
tainting it with the smell and feel
of humiliation;
a breach of immortality,
woven from ragged strands of ignorance.

she was beautiful;
a carcass rendered, peeled,
carelessly consumed:
laid bare, quaking,
for all to see.
