in the age of digital communication

she speaks to me of synapses, detailing the
complexities of the mind in elegant intellectual
pulses;

(while on this end, savage admiration is
unearthed, exposed, laid bare:
violently, shockingly tangible)

and she likens us to neurons, sharing data,
exchanging information,

(letting me know that
cowardice
entails far less now
than it ever has before)

exhorting in her black-on-white monotone,
scholarly and sterile on the screen:

(and we are so close, yet too,
too far...)

so, fumbling
with shamefully fluent ease,
the mind denies the living
as i disconnect.
